Season 3 kicks off live from the ASHRAE Region V CRC in Cleveland with Society President Sarah Maston. In this episode, Sarah shares how a single HVAC elective and a small consulting firm pulled her into the built environment, how commissioning and real jobsite experience shaped her career, and why she eventually started her own one person company to balance family and professional growth. She walks through the three major presidential initiatives around modernizing and localizing building codes for resilience and decarbonization, assembling the right multidisciplinary team for existing building retrofits, and launching ASHRAE HVAC Hero, a free educational video game designed to introduce the next generation to how buildings really work. Along the way, the conversation covers workforce development, using ASHRAE as your real world MBA, and why games and interactive tools can be a safe place to fail while learning to design and operate better buildings.
