SUMMARY:October Luncheon: The Benefits of Hybrid Solutions to Hydronic Heating.
DESCRIPTION:Air-to-water heat pumps are rapidly gaining traction as hot water generators for hydronic heating in commercial buildings\, thanks to their exceptional energy efficiency and low carbon emissions. However\, their performance can be challenged during periods of low outdoor air temperatures. A hybrid approach—pairing air-to-water heat pumps with backup boilers—offers a practical and resilient solution\, maintainin reliable building operation year-round with only a minimal tradeoff in carbon emissions. This presentation explores the design and performance of hybrid systems\, demonstrating how they offer a realistic path toward meeting climate goals without compromising on comfort or reliability.  \nChris Lane is a Product Manager at Cleaver-Brooks\, bringing over 33 years of experience in the HVAC industry. In his current role\, he focuses on developing and delivering environmentally sustainable hydronic and steam products and solutions.  Prior to joining Cleaver-Brooks\, Chris led the building automation system product management team\, where he played a key role in advancing smart building technologies.  An ASHRAE Certified Decarbonization Professional\, Chris is committed to helping customers achieve comfortable\, efficient\, and sustainable building environments. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. \n  \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER

SUMMARY:ASHRAE December Luncheon: Ethics w/ Julia Timberman
DESCRIPTION:Test your “Ethics IQ” against real cases. Engineers are often confronted with ethical issues (whether they realize it or not). In this presentation you will engage in an interactive session where you are presented with multiple ethics cases\, then you will discuss the cases in small groups\, and then reveal their decisions. The cases that will be presented are all part of the NSPE’s Board of Ethical Review Online Cases. \nJulia Timberman\, PE \nDuring her 25+ years working in the HVAC industry in Columbus\, Julia Timberman has worked in a variety of roles\, from contracting to design to sales. She began her career interning for a mechanical contractor where she fell in love with the industry. After graduating from college\, Julia transitioned to an engineering firm where she learned the design side of the industry\, blending in practical experience from her time spent working for a mechanical contractor. In 2013 she earned her P.E. in HVAC. In recent years\, Julia has moved to the sales side of the industry\, where her personality and experience have allowed her to evaluate customer needs through the lens of a contractor’s practicality\, an engineer’s design considerations and a project manager’s requirements\, to help tailor solutions to meet her client’s needs. \nJulia currently serves as the ASHRAE Director Regional Chair for Region V\, representing the ASHRAE members in Ohio\, Indiana and Michigan at a society level and helping to guide and shape ASHRAE as part of the Board of Director’s.
