YEA Sponsored Class on The Basics of Air Filtration
Please join us for our first YEA sponsored training class of the 2018-2019 ASHRAE year. These classes are provided for those who are new to our industry and cover important topics at an introductory level. This class will be held at 10:00 AM prior to the October Lunch and Technical Presentation. Aaron Powell of Ketchum & Walton Co. will be presenting on The Basics of Air Filtration and will cover the topics and questions below:
What is a Micron?
What is in Atmospheric Air?
What is MERV?
Fine vs Coarse Fiber Filter Media
ASHRAE 52.2-2007 Addendum B (MERV-A)
Life Cycle Costing Considerations for Air Filtration.
Aaron Powell has been working as a manufacturer’s representative at Ketchum & Walton Co. since 2004. He specializes in air filtration and works with customers to offer solutions to meet their indoor air quality needs. Aaron graduated from Ohio University in 2003 with a BA in Business Administration.
The class will count for 1 PDH and will be free to members of the Columbus ASHRAE chapter and $10 for all non-ASHRAE members. Registration will close October 12th at noon and is limited to the first 30 people. If you wish to attend the October Lunch and Technical Presentation held after this class you will need to register for each event separately.

Their presentation will focus on the correct methods, not products, to remove molecular contaminants. Due to their abilities to test according to ISO 10121-1, ISO 10121-2, ASHRAE 145.1, and ASHRAE 145.2 not only is their research backed by simulations carried out at realistic operating conditions.
Trent Thiel
Trent Thiel is the Molecular Filtration Segment Manager for Camfil US. He majored in Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University and worked in process gas decontamination 10 years in San Francisco, CA where he currently resides with his wife and two daughters.

The presentation includes a review of gas appliance categories, applicable codes and standards, best practices and common code violations….as well as the benefits of mechanical draft and when mechanical draft systems should be used.
Jason Geagan
Jason Geagan is the National Sales Manager for US Draft Co. based in Fort Worth, Texas. His 23 years of industry experience began in Chicago, where he worked for his father’s boiler rep agency, focusing on hydronic and steam boilers. Since 2000 he has worked for several mechanical and natural draft companies.
