Topic: Healing Health Care Buildings: Energy Usage in Hospitals and Energy Efficient Design
Hospitals are some of the largest consumers of energy on a per square foot basis. This presentation will review energy usage in hospitals and different energy efficient designs that hospitals can implement during new construction and renovation projects.

Speaker: Jeremy Fauber, PE, LEED AP BD+C
Jeremy has worked at Heapy Engineering since 2003. He is responsible for HVAC design, specifications, and cost estimating, and has designed systems for commercial buildings, education, health care, retirement, and communication facilities. He also has experience designing facilities that use geothermal technology.
As a senior mechanical engineer, Fauber oversees construction projects with budgets as large as $200 million throughout Ohio. He is primarily involved in designing mechanical systems for the health care market. Whether it's sound attenuation, energy conservation, or appearances of exposed HVAC equipment, he integrates both function and aesthetics into his designs. Fauber is also responsible for updating company standards and evaluating energy efficient design strategies.
Jeremy has been involved in the construction of numerous U.S. Green Building Council LEED projects, including the first LEED Gold hospital in Ohio, Diley Ridge Medical Center, along with multiple LEED certified projects for the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.
He has been instrumental in implementing new approaches and technologies in the company's diverse projects. As a mechanical engineer, he performs whole-building energy simulations and provides engineering support that includes load calculations, envelope heat transfer evaluation, and moisture migration calculations. He has also performed numerous studies on natural ventilation, radiant heating and cooling, and overall environmental thermal comfort. Fauber is heavily involved in the local ASHRAE Chapter and is a voting member of SSPC 170 at the society level of ASHRAE. In his spare time, Fauber is active in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Miami Valley and Saint Vincent DePaul.
