Andrew Stotz is a Systems Account Manager with Trane in Columbus.  He attended Tri-State University where he obtained a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and has been with Trane for 8 years.  Andrew works with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, and building owners/operators to design, construct, and maintain efficient and reliable HVAC systems.

Topic: Adapting Today to Shape Tomorrow

As ASHRAE's president, Wentz chairs the Society's Board of Directors and Executive Committee. His theme, Adapt Today to Shape Tomorrow, is based on the goal in the Society's Strategic Plan to adapt. Wentz relates this goal to his personal history of moving from a slide rule in his early college days to a hand calculator and now a computer or smartphone as an example of the challenges and opportunities inherent in adapting to new technology.

"All of us have had to come face-to-face with the challenges of adaptation, it's in the power of adapting that lives, organizations, and communities, are transformed. Our ability to shape tomorrow is borne out of our willingness to adapt today. Speaker: Tim Wentz, PE, Fellow ASHRAE, HBDP

Tim Wentz is currently the AHRAE Society President and an associate professor at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Wentz earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska. Upon graduation, Wentz went to work for his family's mechanical contracting firm. As the fourth generation to join the firm, he had the opportunity to develop an expertise in mechanical design, estimating and construction management. He spent 19 years in the industry, working on a wide range of mechanical projects throughout the Midwest, including hospitals, nursing homes, schools, factories and other large commercial enterprises.

Since entering academia, Wentz has received numerous awards and honors for his teaching and service to the HVAC industry. He is the recipient of an Exceptional Service Award, a Distinguished Service Award, the E.K. Campbell Award of Merit, a Region IX Regional Award of Merit, a Region IX Chapter President of the Year and a Regional Energy Award.

The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) has named Wentz their national "Educator of the Year" on three occasions and in 2009 awarded him its highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award. He also has received the Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction's Outstanding Educator Award and the College of Engineering's Holling Award for outstanding teaching and mentoring. Wentz has previously served as the ASHRAE President-Elect, Treasurer and two terms as Vice President on the Board of Directors and also as Region IX Director and Regional Chair.

Topic: Healing Health Care Buildings: Energy Usage in Hospitals and Energy Efficient Design

Hospitals are some of the largest consumers of energy on a per square foot basis.  This presentation will review energy usage in hospitals and different energy efficient designs that hospitals can implement during new construction and renovation projects.

Speaker: Jeremy Fauber, PE, LEED AP BD+C

Jeremy has worked at Heapy Engineering since 2003.  He is responsible for HVAC design, specifications, and cost estimating, and has designed systems for commercial buildings, education, health care, retirement, and communication facilities. He also has experience designing facilities that use geothermal technology.

As a senior mechanical engineer, Fauber oversees construction projects with budgets as large as $200 million throughout Ohio. He is primarily involved in designing mechanical systems for the health care market. Whether it's sound attenuation, energy conservation, or appearances of exposed HVAC equipment, he integrates both function and aesthetics into his designs. Fauber is also responsible for updating company standards and evaluating energy efficient design strategies.

Jeremy has been involved in the construction of numerous U.S. Green Building Council LEED projects, including the first LEED Gold hospital in Ohio, Diley Ridge Medical Center, along with multiple LEED certified projects for the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.  

He has been instrumental in implementing new approaches and technologies in the company's diverse projects. As a mechanical engineer, he performs whole-building energy simulations and provides engineering support that includes load calculations, envelope heat transfer evaluation, and moisture migration calculations. He has also performed numerous studies on natural ventilation, radiant heating and cooling, and overall environmental thermal comfort. Fauber is heavily involved in the local ASHRAE Chapter and is a voting member of SSPC 170 at the society level of ASHRAE. In his spare time, Fauber is active in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Miami Valley and Saint Vincent DePaul.

Topic: Responsible Use of Refrigerants

This presentation discusses the practical application of Standards 15, 147 and 34 including how to retrofit existing Mechanical Rooms to meet the Standard.  Emphasis is placed on the safety of the persons and property on or near the premises.  The presentation also discusses the practices and procedures that will reduce emissions into the atmosphere of halogenated refrigerants used in refrigeration and air-conditioning.  Ever wonder why you hear so many different dates on the phase out of refrigerants?  Want to know which refrigerant is being phased out when and what will replace it?  This lecture will describe the current status of refrigerants and provide our best guess on where things are going in the future.

Speaker: Julian R. de Bullet, President of deBullet Consulting LLC

Julian R. de Bullet has over 40 years of experience in the HVAC industry specializing in educational outreach and energy advocacy.  He is the AdvanTE³C System Consultant for the UTC Building and Industrial Systems team developing strategies for high performance buildings that are safer, smarter and sustainable.  As ASHRAE Vice President (2001/2003), he served on the Society Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and was Chair of Member Council and Publishing Council.  He is Past President of the ASHRAE National Capital Chapter and was Director and Regional Chair for ASHRAE Region III.  He is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer with over 400 technical seminars delivered around the world.  He is an ASHRAE Life Member and holds the ASHRAE Distinguished and Exceptional Service Awards.  Presently he is a member of the ASHRAE Society Nominating Committee and a Member of Technical Committee TC8.2-Centrifugal Chillers and TC2.5-Global Climate Change.
