ASHRAE Columbus Technical Tour

Greetings! Please join us for our ASHRAE Anheuser-Busch Columbus Brewery Tour presented by YEA.  The cost is $10 and all proceeds will go towards Research Promotion.  Immediately following the tour will be a happy hour at Winking Lizard.

Explore the Anheuser-Busch Columbus Brewery onWednesday May 20, 2015 starting promptly at 4:45pm.  This private tour will present the Brewery's 1 million+ SF of total building area including the diverse and complex refrigeration, mechanical, and processing systems.  Don't delay and sign up now as this exclusive firsthand tour is limited to only 40 registrants!  Registration closes Thursday May 14, 2015.

Tour Itinerary

  • 4:45 pm: Arrive at the reception area where you will be escorted to a meeting/conference area.

  • 5:00 pm: There is an opening 15 minute presentation covering the company, brewery, the safety aspects of the tour, and introduction of the tour guides.

  • 5:15 pm: Two groups are formed and paired with their tour guides.  One half will tour the Brewing Process area while the other group will tour the Packaging area.

  • 6:00 pm: Two groups meet back up, trade tour guides, and proceed touring the area

  • 6:45 pm: When everyone has seen both the Brewing and Packaging areas, the groups will meet back in the conference area for a short close out including any Q&A.

  • 7:00 pm: Tour concludes.  Unfortunately, there is no "Beer Tasting" associated with the tour so please come join us for happy hour @ the Winking Lizard Crosswoods location (100 Hutchinson Avenue, Columbus, OH 43235)

Columbus ASHRAE Scholarships

Prospective ASHRAE Members,

Interested in pursuing a career in the HVAC field?  Are you currently a senior in high school or enrolled in college?  Consider applying for one of our $1,500 scholarships for current High School Seniors or College Students.  Applications must be received no later than May 31 and scholarships will be awarded June 30.  Scholarship awards will be issued directly to the school of study and not the individual.  Good luck!

SpeakerStephen Hamstra, ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer

President, Greensleeves LLC 

Stephen Hamstra, President of Greensleeves LLC was previously Executive Vice President of GMB Architecture + Engineering. He received his degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University in 1981. Steve received the 1st Place 2014 ASHRAE Energy Technology Award for New Educational Facilities and the 2013 ASHRAE Region V Energy Technology Award.  Steve was the first engineer in Michigan to achieve Certified GeoExchange Designer status (in 2000), first engineer in Michigan to receive LEED Accredited Professional status (in 2001) and the first engineer in Michigan to receive ASHRAE High Performance Building Design Professional status (in 2008). 

Steve was selected by the Association of Energy Engineers as the 2006 Energy Engineer of the Year in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.  In 2007, the Association of Energy Engineers recognized him as a “Legend in Energy” for lifetime achievement. 

Steve is a registered Professional Engineer in several states, with ground source heat pump design experience in more than 5 million square feet of facilities and several patents pending for Ground Source Heat Pump and Thermal Energy Storage System Control Technology.  His articles are frequently published in Engineered Systems magazine and Ground Up, the publication of the European Ground Source Heat Pump Association.

In addition to ASHRAE, he is also a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers; the Association of Energy Engineers; the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association; GEO and GeoExchange.  He is a voting member of ASHRAE Technical Committee 6.8 Geothermal Heat Pump and Energy Recovery Applications.  Steve speaks frequently at ASHRAE conferences, IGSHPA conferences and other high performance building-related conferences.
